NEONATAL HYPOGLYCAEMIA - HIP DYSPLACIA -

Newborn babies are susceptible to several dangerous neonatal conditions which occur shortly after delivery. These problems must be treated as soon as possible to avoid difficulties later on in life and in extreme cases they can be fatal. Failure to recognise and properly treat neonatal conditions can be Medical Negligence and compensation for any long term illlnesses may be appropriate.

The most serious neonatal conditions include hip dysplasia, neonatal hypoglycaemia, kernicterus and hyperbilirubinaemia:

  • Hip dysplasia is leg dislocation from the pelvis and if this is not treated at an early stage there can be serious and permanent long term difficulties. Hip dysplasia in children is often not recognised until the child is walking requiring major surgery on the hip, which is not always fully effective.
  • Neonatal hypoglycaemia equates to low glucose levels in the child’s blood stream which may eventually lead to brain damage. Failure to recognise the signs and symptoms of this condition by healthcare professionals may be medical negligence.
  • Kernicterus and hyperbilirubinaemia are conditions that may lead to Cerebral Palsy. There are well documented symptoms for Kernicterus and Hyperbilirubinaemia that can be missed by healthcare professionals.

If you believe that your doctor has been negligent in not recognising any neonatal condition then your child may be entitled to compensation. Discussing the likely outcome of a claim with a specialist medical negligence solicitor should be your next step.
