Diagnosis

A combination of physical examinations and tests are used to diagnose ovarian cancer. These include :-

  • Examining the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, vagina and rectum to detect any abnormalities.
  • Performing a biopsy using laparoscopy techniques in order to take a tissue sample for further testing.
  • Performing an ultrasound which is capable of distinguishing healthy, normal tissue from tumors and cysts.
  • Testing the blood for the presence of chemicals that indicate ovarian cancer.

Medical Negligence

For ovarian cancer patients, survival depends on an early diagnosis. The earlier the diagnosis is made and treatment is started, the less pain, suffering and financial hardship the patient will have to endure.

Sometimes delayed diagnosis is the result of medical negligence which is a legal term that encompasses any negligent act on the part of a healthcare provider that causes harm to the patient. Examples of medical malpractice include failure to treat, misdiagnosis, improper treatment, delayed treatment, prescription errors and failure to perform appropriate follow-up tests.
